Does your pregnancy bring you suffering instead of joy? Do you vomit and feel nauseous all the time? If the answer is yes, I really empathise. There is nothing worse than constant nausea. Luckily, homeopathy for morning sickness will help you feel much better in no time. And it’s all natural, so no need to worry about side-effects.
People often think that morning sickness is just that little bit of nausea or vomiting here and there which doesn’t last long. “You’ll be over it before you know it” kind of thing. While it’s true for some women, the less lucky ones suffer from severe continuous and disabling nausea and vomiting all day long. They are exhausted, can’t keep any food or drink down, start losing weight and struggle with their daily activities. Such severe unrelenting nausea and vomiting can extend well beyond the first trimester. It can even last throughout the whole pregnancy. Known as hyperemesis gravidarum, it’s estimated to affect up to 2% of pregnancies.
Morning sickness and hyperemesis gravidarum – what it feels like
Severe morning sickness and hyperemesis gravidarum can be absolutely debilitating. On top of feeling incredibly ill and weak, women often feel frightened and anxious. They are worried that the baby is not receiving enough nutrients. Luckily, in the majority of cases hyperemesis gravidarum is not serious enough to be life-threatening. Most women go on to deliver healthy babies. Babies are perfectly designed to get all the nutrients they require, even if they seriously deplete mother’s reserves in the process. So, babies are unlikely to suffer from nutritional deficiencies, but mothers can become very depleted. Some women have complications from the continuous vomiting such as gastric ulcers or esophageal bleeding.
Treatment for morning sickness and hyperemesis gravidarum
Pregnancy is a special time in the life of a woman. We want the best for our health and our baby’s health. Many women discover homeopathy during their pregnancies. They know it’s safe, they’ve heard it’s effective, and they don’t want to go down the route of conventional medication.
Have you heard of the terrible disaster of Thalidomide, over-the-counter medication for morning sickness sold around 1960? This tragedy eventually made people realise that drugs can cross the placental barrier and cause damage to the developing baby. By the time some independent researchers found the link, Thalidomide had caused devastating malformations in tens of thousands of babies.
Nowadays, we are well aware that drugs can cross the placental barrier and inflict damage upon the developing baby. Even such common household names as aspirin and ibuprofen that are considered low risk have some possibility of causing birth defects. Why would you want to expose your baby to such risks if we have a safe and effective natural treatment for morning sickness and hyperemesis gravidarum, as well as other common pregnancy-related issues. Homeopathy has been used safely during pregnancy, labour and postpartum for over 200 years. It has absolutely zero side effects for mother and baby.
Homeopathy for morning sickness and hyperemesis gravidarum
Nausea and vomiting in pregnancy is called morning sickness because it’s often slightly worse in the morning. That’s when people have low blood sugar. To get some morning sickness relief, it’s a good idea to eat small amounts regularly. Also, ginger is a useful antiemetic, so chewing on a dried or fresh slice of ginger, or having a ginger-flavoured sweet may help.
If the above suggestions did nothing for you, it’s time to try homeopathy for morning sickness. Nothing is as quick and powerful as the right remedy.
Homeopathy for morning sickness and hyperemesis gravidarum- the top remedy
- Sepia
A wonderful remedy for women. It’s incredibly useful at so many times in their life, including pregnancy. The key indications for Sepia include an empty, gnawing, constantly hungry feeling in the stomach. They feel they need to eat all the time and are slightly better after eating, but then the nausea returns. They may already have children to look after and may be tired from taking care of their family. May feel resentful towards their husband. Sepia may not be very good at asking for help, but rather expect their husband to know what’s wrong. His smell may make them feel more nauseous, and Sepia is generally sensitive to smells. They need peace and quiet and time alone. As a result, they get irritable with anything or anyone who makes demands on their time and energy. If they manage to get a little exercise, they feel better for it.
Homeopathy for morning sickness and hyperemesis gravidarum – Pulsatilla and Arsenicum
- Pulsatilla
They feel much worse for fatty food and would never touch the fat on the meat. They have no thirst and need to remind themselves to drink. Feel worse in a warm and stuffy room and better in fresh air, they seek the coolest room. They crave company, reassurance and sympathy, and may feel insecure and a little jealous of their partner. They are much better for a chat and a good cry. - Arsenicum
A big remedy for gastrointestinal problems such as food poisoning, and also a big remedy for morning sickness. The weakness and prostration are out of proportion to the symptoms. They are simply not able to carry on and must lie down. Nausea and vomiting are worse after eating or drinking. There may be thirst and a sour taste in the mouths. They feel chilly and can’t get warm and want company. May worry that something is seriously wrong with their health. They may also take healthy food or concern about germs to an extreme. Can’t tolerate disorder and feel anxious and restless.
Homeopathy for morning sickness and hyperemesis gravidarum – Nux vomica and Lycopodium
- Nux–vomica
Generally hurried and dynamic person who gets a lot done. If nausea and vomiting slow them down, they get irritated and snappy. Tend to feel sicker on waking and feel better if they can vomit. May be particularly sensitive to tobacco smoke. They have a good appetite but feel worse for eating. Their bowels get sluggish, and they are prone to constipation. They don’t require company and are irritated if people get in their way. They may vomit quite a lot. - Lycopodium
They feel really bloated and distended and get lots of wind and burps. Feeling of pressure and nausea from trapped wind. Passing wind makes it better. They want to eat little and often like Sepia, feeling full quickly and shortly afterwards feeling hungry again. Sensitive to low blood sugar and get irritable and drained when hungry. They may have low confidence and are apprehensive of undertaking anything new. As a consequence, they tend to prepare really well. Read a lot about pregnancy, birth and parenting and interview their friends and family if it’s their first baby. If they’ve done it once, they know they’ll be fine. It is a known remedy for anticipatory anxiety, a fear of challenge or change. But they are capable people and tend to do well. They crave sweets and simple carbs, prefer warm drinks and have an energy dip between 4 pm and 8 pm.
Homeopathy for morning sickness and hyperemesis gravidarum – smaller remedies to consider
- Ipecac
This remedy has continuous relentless nausea and vomiting; they vomit as much as Nux-vomica or even more. There is a real relentless quality to their nausea. Nothing makes it better. Their vomiting is quite violent, raising intracranial pressure. This may cause a nosebleed or ruptured blood vessels in their eyes or bleeding gums. They may have increased salivation, and if they eat, it’s something small and pleasant looking. - Colchicum
Horrible nausea predominates, although they may also vomit. The smell and sight of food is unbearable. Sepia is also sensitive to smells, but this remedy has more to do with food smells. They often say they can’t go shopping because of the sight and smell of food in supermarkets and cafes. May have food cravings, but once it’s in front of them, they can’t eat it. They are better for being still and worse for moving around and may have a bloated feeling. - Lactic acid
They feel worse in the morning, typically the moment they open their eyes they feel nauseous. By lunchtime they usually feel a lot better. They may be anaemic, feel a little dizzy, tired and breathless. They may describe feeling seasick and slightly disoriented. Their salivation may be increased. They have a good appetite and feel better for eating.

There is another remedy, a little gem called Symphoricarpus racemose. It is specifically indicated for nausea and vomiting of pregnancy. I prescribe it when there isn’t a clear picture or when all else fails.
